Yellow (with black text) indicates the pipe contains materials
that are inherently hazardous. Examples would be corrosive, caustic,
explosive or flammable materials. Radioactive, toxic or any material
that creates a toxic gas are also classified as inherently hazardous.
In addition, if the contents of the pipe are under extreme pressure
or temperature, they are considered to be inherently hazardous.
Green (with white text) identifies a pipe as carrying a
liquid, or liquid mixture, that is a low hazard material.
Blue (with white text) identifies a pipe carrying a low
hazard gas or gaseous mixture.
Red (with white text) identifies the pipe as being used
for materials for fire suppression. This includes maerials such
as carbon dioxide, Halon, foam and sprinkler water.
If you are using a label printer to make your pipe markers, you
need to load the printer with the proper color tape for the type
of pipe label you'll be printing.
Preprinted pipe markers may be purchased with the appropriate background
color. If you do not have the correct color label available when
it is needed, DO NOT substitute a label with a different color.
Always use the correct color label.
