Label Size

The length of a pipe marker label must be greater than a standard minimum size, based on the diameter of the pipe.

Minimum lengths for pipe marker labels have been established so as to ensure the label will be easily visible. The minimum length applies to the colored portion (color field) of the the label, not to the overall length of the label material.

ASME (ANSI) A13.1 makes the pipe marker length recommendations shown in the table to the right. For pipes that are less than 3/4" in diameter, a permanently legible tag is recommended, instead of a pipe marker label.
