Pipe markers are available in a variety of materials. The
best material depends on the environment in which it will be used.
Label Printers: materials available for label printers,
that are suitable for pipemarkers, include outdoor grade vinyl,
low temperature tape, glow-in-the-dark tapes, high performance (low
halide) polyester tapes for use on stainless steel pipes, and reflective
tapes for low light locations. All tapes for label printers are
self-adhesive. They can be applied directly to the pipe, or pipe
lagging, or applied to a blank strap-on pipe marker.
Stock Labels: these are available in a variety of materials.
Some of the comon materials and label types include:
Self-sticking Vinyl - these are similar to the outdoor grade vinyl
used by a label printer.
Snap-On - precoiled pie markers that snap into place around the
pipe.
Strap-On - supplied as flat sheets that strap onto pipes that are
6" or larger in diameter. Excellent for pipes that have rough,
dirty or oily surfaces.
High Performance - this is a material that wraps around a pipe.
They are precoiled to conform to the shape of the pipe, and a self-stick
strip attatches the label to itself.
Roll Form - eliminates the need to measure the diameter of the
pipe. This vinyl material comes on a roll and can be wrapped around
most pipe sizes.
Plastic - economical plastic pipe markers can be used in a non-harsh
environment.
