Having an established minimum text height ensures that the text will be legible. These are only minmum guidelines. It may be necessary, in some cases, to use larger text--for example when the pipe is located at a distance, and as a result the label has to be read from farther away than normal. The table to the right gives the minimum text sizes based on the pipe diameter. This information is from the ASME (ANSI) A13.1 standards. The color used for the text is based on the color of the label. Yellow labels should have black text. All other label colors (green, blue and red) should have white text.
